Dark mode has been around for a long time and still is, but some apps have taken too long to support the darker look. One of these applications was Gmail. Although there are smart solutions for the app to adopt the dark theme, the company today decided to officially launch it. That’s right, Gmail for iOS is finally winning in dark mode, one of the most popular features for a long time.

Gmail for iOS finally gets dark mode – update now!

Gmail for iOS is available in the App Store for iPhone and iPad and you can download it for free now. Today’s app update brings a system-wide dark mode that debuted with iOS 13 last fall. If you’re using Gmail on your iPhone or iPad instead of the Apple Mail app, you’re in luck.

According to the Gmail app release notes on the App Store, support for dark mode is not mentioned. Just mention Gmail’s offline search support which will allow users to search for emails even without an internet connection.

If you are not familiar with the technique to enable or disable the dark mode in Gmail, the operation is quite simple. Just launch Control Center and activate dark mode. You can also do this via the settings. Once done, Gmail will automatically switch from the light theme to the dark theme. In addition to that, it also has manual controls to activate the dark mode in Gmail for iOS. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Launch the Gmail application on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Theme, then choose Dark. You can set the system default if you want to activate it when you activate dark mode from the Control Center.

Dark mode will save energy on all OLED devices and will also contribute to a much more pleasant experience, especially at night. Other applications that support dark mode also change when you activate dark mode from the Control Center.

Gmail’s dark mode is now deployed for all users. If you don’t see the features available on your iPhone or iPad yet, try updating the app manually from the App Store if you haven’t selected automatic updates.
