GTA 6 Setting
Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly returning to Vice City, the franchise’s replacement for Miami. Bloomberg’s 2022 report claims that Vice City is just the beginning. Rockstar will reportedly add “new missions, cities, and locations on a regular schedule.”
According to the report, GTA 6 was codenamed Project Americas. This is in reference to Rockstar’s rumored original plan to include North and South American locales at launch. This plan was scrapped, according to the report, to decrease crunch.
What do we know about GTA 6?
No, it’s still too early. The most recent leaks suggest GTA 6 is only coming to newer hardware. However, this has not been confirmed.

Rockstar’s insider, Tez2, is the best source of information we have on when GTA 6 will be released. According to in their most recent post, the developers plan on releasing GTA 6 during the holiday season of 2024.
GTA 6 Gameplay Leak
On September 18, the online gaming community was stunned as what appeared to the first GTA 6 gameplay leaked. Many were skeptical about the authenticity of these small clips, which showed various animations. Next came the elaborate footage with robbery scenes and cop shootouts. Many questioned if the whole thing was a fake, given Rockstar’s secrecy.
Jason Schreier, a journalist at The New York Times, confirmed to sources in the studio that the leaks were real. Hackers shared more than 90 videos as they tried to ” negotiate a deal with developers.
The leak revealed everything from the confirmation of Vice City returning as a central location, to footage of the two previously reported protagonists. This massive leak was one of the largest in gaming history, given that nothing official had been released before, including no screenshots or gameplay.
GTA6 characters: Will the GTA6 female protagonist be released?
Since months, it has been reported that Rockstar is working on the GTA 6’s first female protagonist. This would be a first in the 3D age for the series. The news was first revealed in a Bloomberg report earlier this year which examined the changing culture at Rockstar North. Since then, the GTA 6 leaked has confirmed the report. The early development footage shows two new GTA 6 playable characters.
In-development characters’ names are Jason and Lucia. It appears that GTA 5’s character switching system is making a return in some form. In one leaked clip, the two robbed a diner while AI piloted the other character. Another clip shows character swapping, but it’s near-instantaneous rather than the gradual perspective change seen in GTA 5.
