The Legend of Vox Machina is now officially on TV.

Following a hugely profitable Kickstarter campaign in the year 2019 which resulted in $11 million pledged to a cartoon series that is based on Campaign 1 of the Dungeons & Dragons web-based game Critical Role, a 24-episode program is expected to launch via Amazon Prime Video in 2022.

Critical Role could be the most well-known form of “actual play” D&D which is when a bunch of players get together to play dice roll games on the table. The show is hosted by a range of famous American voice actors, and with an immense fan base worldwide.

The most recent teaser, which we’ve provided below, offers glimpses of the show’s style as well as its comedy and size. Prior to the release of the above video we received the show’s animated opener that features Vox Machina party members:

Keyleth the druid Percy the gunslinger Grog the barbarian Pike The cleric Scanlan The Bard Vex the Ranger, as well as Vax the Rogue. The soundtrack used in this episode is the same as the one that was used to introduce the actual episodes of play, and we are hoping that it will be utilized in some way for the final animated series.

Critical Role’s Critical Role team also published a behind-the scenes film of the ongoing development of animation at Titmouse, which will be released in mid-2020 that includes interviews with artists and illustrations of the show’s environmental art.

The Legend of Vox Machina: Who’s Involved?

The Original Campaign 1: Vox Machina actors will, naturally, reprise their roles in an animated TV series.

To mention a few from the cast’s numerous names, Laura Bailey has voiced both Kat from Gears 5 and Abby from The Last of Us Part 2, Ashley Johnson has voiced Ellie in The Last of Us games, Matt Mercer has voiced Levi in the English version of Attack on Titan and McCree in the PvP game Overwatch and Sam Riegel has voiced Phoenix Wright in the Ace Attorney games.

There’s been no announcement regarding guest appearances. However, Critical Role has brought in actors from outside for one-off events or minor story arcs. Will Wheaton and Joe Manganiello taking part as part of Campaign 1.

However, we expect that actors will reprise their roles when they are required. In the Kickstarter page, “we’ll bring in some extra special celebrity appearances and voice overs by industry legends to complete the actors.”
